Gary Malkin is an Emmy award-winning composer whose music has accompanied life’s deepest thresholds - birth, illness, grief, ceremony, and celebration. His scores and soundscapes have appeared in over thirty documentary films, and his album Graceful Passages has comforted millions at life’s end.
But Gary’s work is not only music. Over decades he has woven sound together with spoken wisdom, breath, and presence to create experiences that help people remember what they are for. This is the work that became the Global Wisdom Foundation, Portals of Awe, and the wisdom keepers gathering around him.

What music does that talking cannot
A room where someone is dying is not a room that wants a speech. It wants company. What Gary found - first by accident, then on purpose, over and over - is that music can hold a room the way words cannot: it gives people somewhere to put what they are feeling, and it lets them sit together without having to explain themselves.
That is the whole thesis, and everything since has been a way of testing it. Hospice bedsides. Memorials. A boardroom the morning after a layoff. A conference hall where four hundred people have spent two days pretending to be fine. The setting changes. What happens when the music starts does not.

Resonance, and why organizations keep asking
Resonance is not a metaphor here. It is the ordinary, observable fact that a group of people can be brought into the same emotional register in a few minutes - and that everything they do afterwards, whether that is deciding, disagreeing, grieving or building, happens differently once they have been. Gary’s work with leaders is about making that repeatable rather than accidental, and about doing it without asking anyone to believe anything.
It is also where his interest in human-centered AI sits. The question he keeps returning to is not what the technology can do. It is what being around it costs us, and what we ought to insist it leave intact.
